Old photos

I love to do genealogy research of my family and love the old family photos. My mom's family took lots of pictures. Here is my mom when she lived with her Aunt in Washingon DC. A friend took a photo for us a couple of years ago of the same steps so I put the photos side by side. Her picture was in the early 1940's on NW 16th Street.

Crochet edgings

Hi Alison, I just saw your request for a link to the site to find these edgings. I ended up using one that was not as wide. I made a roll to hold my crochet hooks. I had never added crochet edging to material so it was a learning experience. I would like to try an edging on pillow cases.

Fun project

I saw a cute pincushion online so I adapted it and made me one. Then I thought it would make a cute Christmas mouse ornament, so I changed it a little and came up with this. Here they are in various states of completion. I think they turned out kinda cute....

Old crochet magazines

I had fun looking through Mom's old crochet stuff. The Learn to Crochet one says copyright 1946 and the second book says 1951.

We have a lot to be thankful for

My nieces and Mom....

Happy Thanksgiving

"Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother's house we go....". We are headed to Mom's for Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey and ham and all the fixin's. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

I haven't crocheted in years but I wanted a crocheted trim so I tried a sample of a free pattern I found online. I think I need some more practice, but it is a pretty pattern. I also have been trying to make folded paper snowflake but it is hard, so I may not continue that project :) Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Bitty Booties

My cross stitching was delayed because I found a new project that I had to try..Bitty Booties. I found this design by Heather Bailey on her website ...www.HellomynameisHeather.com. These are the first two I have tried and I just love them. I am going to use them for Christmas gifts and put some sort of goodies inside them. I think they would be cute as a tree ornament too. I would love to find a pattern for ballet slippers.

My favorite cross stitch project

I have been enjoying reading everyone's blogs and seeing all your great projects. I wanted to share my favorite project I did many years ago. My pictures don't show the pretty beads too well. The first photo is the cover of the pattern book. I haven't stitched in a while, but all your lovely blogs have made me get all my supplies out and I hope to finish some ongoing projects...that is if I can stop looking at all your fabulous blogs!

Special things

My husband's aunt gave me these beautiful note cards in 1988. A friend of hers had tatted the flowers and then attached them to note papers. I thought they were too pretty to use! I think the daisy one has the most detail. Aren't they pretty!

Beautiful painting

I just wanted to share a painting I love by James Whistler. This is "Nocturne in Pink and Grey, Portrait of Lady Meux..1881-82. The way he painted the material in the dress is beautiful..I just love everything about this painting. You may know Whistler by his famous painting of his mother.

Mom's camellia bush

Mom's camellia bush is just covered with flowers this year..sooo pretty!

Yard sale finds

Tom took me to 2 or 3 yards sales today, I bought three boxes of cross stitch thread for $2.00. All neatly organized and labelled...included 2 new packs of needles too! As I was leaving the lady said they had been her mother's and it was hard for her to let them go...I told her I would take good care of them and put them to good use.

New dishes

I think these are so cute. I first bought one cup and two trays, then Homegoods starting putting the rest on clearance and I bought things two more times. I need someplace to display them though....they are Kate Williams design..

Special things

Grandma Briggs crocheted this doily. The old jars were found in Granny's house. I put cloth toppers on them and store yarn and threads in them. The old fan was a painting done by Adelaide Hiebel. There is interesting info on her on the internet.

Black Walnut Festival Bethania, NC

Cleared up in the afternoon so we decided to go to the festival in Bethania NC. Bethania is a small village founded by Moravians. This is the Wolff-Moser house c.1799. Click on small picture to get larger picture.

Kudzu vine baskets.

They are restoring the old school.

Inside the restored Alpha Chapel. Had artwork for sale there.

The old mill has shops inside now.

Bethania Moravian church
Cedar lined path to cemetery
Oldest stones there.

Lovely tree beside church.
