Mom's treasures

Grandma Briggs was visiting from OK and teaching Mom how to make a Cathedral quilt. They bought this fabric for the quilt in 1978. Can you see those prices? 69 cents a yard!
So Grandma Briggs made this sample for Mom to go by. The old paper bag is from a store in Guthrie, OK. that is no longer open, I think. Mom saves old paper bags for the memories.(doesn't everyone?)

This quilt block was made by Mom's Aunt Zoe..year unknown. But no later than 1960's. It is supposed to be a turtle. It's always fun to go through Mom's closet. Just when I think I have seen everything something new turns up! Mom has quite a few unfinished projects (doesn't everyone?)

Crochet hearts

I have been practicing my crochet. My DH gave me this book for christmas. It's full of pretty edgings and flower motifs. Thanks to Michele on her blog The Crafty Cameleon in California for the links for instructions for the pretty hearts. I may have to give these hearts to my favorite Valentines.

Old Photo

Here's another photo of mom..at two years old. I think photographers would come to houses with the cart and animal to take the pictures.

Old photo

My mom's family took lots of photos and I love looking at them. I want to share this one of my mom as a baby in 1924. Her mother, my Grandma Briggs, is holding her. Grandma Briggs could crochet really well. I guess that is where I get my interest in crochet. Today, Tom, my DH, took me to therapy (which means I went to craft stores A C Moore and Michaels.) I bought some yarn, even though I don't need it. LOL! But I had to use those darn coupons they keep putting out...by the way...did you know you can use their coupons on magazines? I do that , especially when there is a 50% off coupon.

Here's another Sears catalog page...1957. Lovely to look at, does anyone have a figure like that anymore? I wish I could read the prices LOL!

Old scrapbooks

Have you ever seen the old scrapbooks for sale on ebay? This picture was highlighted from one such scrapbook a while back and I saved the picture because it is such a great photo! I love the dress, the furniture and the drapes too LOL! It is fascinating to see the scrapbooks for sale but at the same time very sad. A lot of work and love has gone into these scrapbooks and yet here they are for sale to a stranger. Some of the scrapbooks document peoples whole lives and then I guess there is no family member to pass them to.

I am ready for spring!

Aren't these dresses lovely? They are from a 1957 Sears catalog. I love to look at the old catalogs and sometimes they are sold on ebay and they post nice pictures of what's inside. I have seen the Christmas ones I remember looking at for hours when I was a little girl.
