A few more fair projects

Here are a few more projects for the fair. My little elephant didn't win anything and I was really tickled with how he turned out. I purchased the paper mache trunk at the craft store and covered it inside and out with scrapbook paper and mod podge and entered it in the decoupage fair category...the judges passed it by! I love that scrapbook paper design. The tiny crochet teddy won a first place and judges choice. I didn't finish the miniature Mickey hat that goes with the Minnie hat....I am going to string them together as a Christmas ornament.

Entries in the fair

I haven't posted in a while because I've been working on multiple projects to enter in the fair. Here's a couple....the Barbie doll granny square afghan won a 1st place blue ribbon, but my little bunny didn't win anything.  And my crochet doily won a 1st place blue ribbon also!

Andy Williams

So sad, Andy Williams passed away. I love his voice and saw his show many years ago...it was fantastic.

Happy 4th!

Hope everyone has a fun filled fourth! Our plans are just to keep cool...been so hot lately. By the way, I just wanted to mention something along the lines of "where have I been that I didn't know this." I bought a paperback at a sale recently that I really enjoyed..."A Truth for a Truth" by Emilie Richards. It is a mystery series...a Ministry is Murder series as a matter of fact, since the main character is a minister's wife. But in reading the ads at the end of the book I found out it is called a "cozy" mystery. I had to look that up, never heard of it.....but this type of mystery is something I enjoy...not much violence or profanity. And many of the authors have background stories featuring cooking, knitting, art, etc. Anyway, I thought others might be interested in this tidbit....but you probably already knew it!

Andy Griffith sad news

We live about an hour from Mt. Airy, NC, Andy's birthplace. It is the town the fictional town of Mayberry was based on. We love "The Andy Griffith Show" and are saddened by the loss of Andy Griffith today. By the way, the actress who played Thelma Lou on the show, Betty Lynn, actually moved to Mt. Airy to live a few years ago.

Lastest craft project: Barbie Hatboxes

Supplies

Paint anywhere you don't want brown to show.

I printed Barbie logo on scrapbook paper for the cover. Scrapbook paper to cover sides. I found heavier paper

worked better for sides (not cardstock, cardstock worked

well for top and bottom)

I lined inside of top and bottom, and covered sides. I used

Alleens's Fast Grab Tacky Glue and also a gluestick.

Punched two holes and insterted eyelets (found in scrapbooking

section at craft store) and insterted cord. Tie knots at ends of

cord on inside. Glue cord as trim around the top and bottom.

I added pink flowered tissue paper for the inside (purchased at Dollar Tree). I think they turned out kinda cute!

Book Sale!

I recently went to an annual book sale and found these three beauties! I love fashion books, and this one spotlights five designers. One very interesting one is Adrian, he designed for movies and later had his own fashion line. He was from 40's and later. The Barbie books shows clothing made for Barbie from 1959 til 1967, the details and accessories for her were amazing. And the jewelry book has scrumptious photos of jewelry.

Happy Birthday Doris Day!

I love Doris Day and her birthday is April 3rd. Turner Classic Movies channel has her as star of the month and is showing many of her movies. I love her singing voice. Here's a link to a video narrated by Doris on TCM.

New Doily

I've started a new doily, called Setting Sun from an old Coats & Clarks publication. It ends with ruffles at edges, which is new for me. I'm using #30 thread and a #10 steel hook.

Sadness

If you enjoy embroidery and needlepoint you probably know Erica Wilson. And if you are my age you might remember her PBS television show. I did not know she passed away in December until reading Cathy of California's blog post. Cathy also includes a couple of youtube links of the tv show. Erica was a wonder and I am sorry to hear of her passing.

I'm still here

Haven't done anything "crafty" lately to post about. I've been reading a lot lately...enjoying Louise Penny's books. They are a series with some recurring characters. I have one more to go..the latest. I'm on the wait list for that one at the library.

Happy Birthday to my dear friend since Jr High School! I won't say how long ago that has been. Hope you have a great day!
